Clothing And Repellents That Limit Contact
Wear light-colored clothing so crawling ticks are easier to spot. Tuck pants into socks, choose closed-toe shoes, and keep shirts secured when you walk through brush or tall grass.
Apply an EPA-registered repellent containing DEET to exposed skin as directed on the label. Clothing and gear treated with permethrin can provide additional protection.
You should follow product instructions and never apply permethrin directly to skin.

Stay near the center of maintained trails. Avoid brushing against vegetation when practical.
After you return indoors, place clothing in a dryer on high heat when appropriate for the fabric. Shower and perform a careful tick check.
